An opportunity to discover and to determine …
An effective direction for life!
Live as if you were to die tomorrow.
Learn as if you were to live forever. ~ Gandhi
Jesus claims to be the Way, the Truth, the Life.
The Study Centre exists to provide the information and opportunity for everyone to explore and choose life that is “life to the full”.
A. Convictions: The Study Centre believes …
· That life is precious, a gift from God.
· That life is purposeful, a pilgrimage to godliness.
· That life is people, relationships make life meaningful.
B. Facilities:
The Study Centre operates from the spacious first floor of this building located on the eastern side of Guwahati at the 6th mile on the Express Highway.
C. Strategies: The Study Centre’s primary goal is to expose not-yet-believers with information about the life and teachings of Jesus so that each may have the opportunity for a personal decision. No one is coerced. We are mindful of Jesus’ invitation: “If anyone would come after me, he/she must deny self and take up his cross daily and follow me.” The Study Centre’s entire strategy is crafted in shape of an invitation: to consider, explore and discover.
To this end, The Study Centre is involved in the following activities:
1. Booklets. “The Book of Life,” a synthesis of the life and teachings of Jesus, is being published. This booklet is accompanied by an introductory set of questions which are returned to The Study Centre for correction and assessment. A more in-depth set of study questions is then sent to each participant. This book is available in Hindi, English, Assamese and Manipuri.
2. Discovery Camps. Bi-annual five-day camps (January, April) are conducted in Guwahati for graduates of the in-depth studies. Each camper is responsible for his/her own travel expenses. Food and lodging is provided by The Study Centre.
3. Life-Groups. These small, discussion, relational, study-groups are organized in various neighbourhood where participants can explore together the essence of living meaningful, service-oriented, Christ-centered lives.
4. Soul Sustenance Seminars. Periodically, weekend workshops and retreats are offered on life-skill themes such as conflict and reconciliation, conversion, coping with stress, decision-making, managing emotions, meaningful marriage, purposeful parenting, managing resources (talents, time, and treasures), encouraging, leading, praying, self-esteems, serving, singing, speaking, spirituality, and teaching.
One Solitary Life
Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher.
He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself...
While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. While He was dying His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth – His coat. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.
Nineteen long centuries have come and gone, and today He is a centerpiece of the human race and leader of the column of progress.
I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, all the navies that were ever built; all the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that one solitary life. ~ Dr James Allan Francis
